World Communications Day 2020
This year World Comm unications Day was celebrated on 17 May. Pope Francis dedicated this year’s Message for the day to the importance of storytelling “so as not to lose our bearings, we need to make our own the truth contained in good stories. Stories that build up, not tear down; stories that help us rediscover our roots and the strength needed to move forward together.”
You can read Pope Francis’ full message here. It is also an excellent time to re-visit the current Social Justice Statement “Making it Real: Genuine Human Encounter in Our Digital World”. The Statement affirms the positive possibilities for encounter and solidarity offered by new digital media, while warning of those elements of our digital world that may be harmful. While the Statement was written prior to the coronavirus pandemic engulfing the world, several of the themes of the statement are even more relevant now, while so much more of our lives have moved online.
