Saving Boxing Day for Families

Yesterday (Sept 19) the JPO and the Archdiocese’s Life Marriage and Family Centre came together with the Shop Distributive Allied Employees Association (SDA – Union for retail and fast food workers) and partners and friends of the Sydney Alliance to fight for Boxing Day trading restriction to be reinstated. You will remember we lost these restrictions two years ago, despite serious engagement and campaigning by many organisations, including our Archdiocese and Archbishop Anthony. That bill had a sunset clause so is up for review again. Here is a press release outlining the Archdiocese’s position which in short is to protect rare time for family and to ensure low-paid workers have a voice and aren’t forced into working extra hours. If you want to make your voice heard on this issue get in touch with your local NSW MP and check out the Take the Time campaign here.
