Dear Friends,

Spring is here and with it the warmer weather, colourful blooms and very soon daylight savings will give us the chance to enjoy more daylight hours. So we hope you get a few minutes to read this new issue of Act Justly as you enjoy the pleasures of Spring.

This edition is all about celebrating the new Social Justice Statement, A Place to Call Home: Making a Home for Everyone in our Land. This year, the Bishops are highlighting the dire state of housing affordability across our country and the urgent need for us all to do whatever we can to end the scourge of homelessness.

To begin, we cover the launch of the Statement at Parramatta Cathedral, reprinting in full the address given by Bishop Vincent Long OFMConv.  We then cover some of the issues related to the recent introduction of tenancy reforms in the NSW Parliament, and a brief overview of a major housing assembly we have planned for early 2019.

You will find two invitations in this edition—one to our Social Justice Gathering in October and the other to our Sydney Street Feast, a fun, family-friendly event to bring together our Sydney community in celebration of the World Day of the Poor—a day introduced by Pope Francis last year.

We also have our regular pieces, Acting Justly, which gives you a taste of all the goings-on across the Archdiocese as well as the Social Justice Corner.

We hope you enjoy this issue!!!

As always, please get in touch with us if we can assist you in any way and do let us know about what you’re up to in your social justice work.

—Blessings, JPO Team
